Happy Sankranthi
Sankranthi, or Sankranti, is a festival that signifies the beginning of the harvest season for the farmers of India.
It is also called 'Makara Sankranthi', it is celebrated primarily in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh & Maharashtra. From this day onwards, the sun with respect to the earth starts moving towards North signalling the oncoming summer also called Uttarayana. The grand sire of Mahabharata - Bheeshmacharya, waited for this day to die and ascend to Brahmaloka.
This piece of information is for all those of you who believe festivals mean just loads and loads of food (that probably includes me too) ... there is indeed so much of Science in our festivals ... our
ancestors really ain't as dumb as we think they are ...
Wish you all a happy 'Sankranthi' ... may some sense prevail in you at least from today !!
